How Much Does Tadelakt Cost in the UAE?

The honest number first: tadelakt in the UAE is priced per project, typically from AED 350 per square metre, supply and install. We deliberately do not publish a flat rate for it, because tadelakt is the least flat-rate surface we make: it is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster, burnished by hand with a stone and sealed with soap, and the hours in it depend entirely on the room — its curves, its niches, and whether the finish is a feature wall or a full hammam. Why “per project” and not a fixed rate

Most of our surfaces carry a published starting rate because the labour is broadly predictable per square metre. Tadelakt is not like that. The material cost is a small share of the price; the real cost is skilled hand-labour, and that scales with complexity rather than area. Ten square metres of flat wall and ten square metres of curved shower enclosure with two arched niches are entirely different jobs. So we price the project, not the metre — with AED 350/m² as the realistic starting point for straightforward tadelakt work, and a proper figure after we have seen the room or the drawings.

What moves the price

Walls are the baseline. A flat, well-prepared bathroom or feature wall is the most efficient tadelakt there is — the starting point of the range.

Floors cost more per metre than walls. A tadelakt floor takes heavier compaction and burnishing, more careful build-up, and more protection while it cures. It is beautiful and it is walkable, but it is slower work than the same area standing upright.

A full hammam is the top of the scale. Floor-to-ceiling tadelakt with benches, curved surfaces, integrated basins and steam means every plane is hand-burnished and every junction is detailed — days of craft per room. It is also what the material was born for, and where it is most worth the money.

Curves, niches and details multiply hours. Tadelakt loves curves — no tile ever wrapped a rounded corner this cleanly — but each arch, niche, hollow and rounded reveal is burnished by hand at hand speed. A room with six niches is a different quote from the same room with none.

Preparation and substrate. Like every finish we apply, the plaster is only as good as what is under it: substrate condition, waterproofing build-up in wet zones, and any levelling all sit in the price before the first coat of lime goes on.

Colour and finish choices move the figure less than geometry does — natural earth pigments are the tradition — but deep bespoke shades and sample development add time.

Fully bespoke work — sculpted basins, unusual pigments, restoration of existing tadelakt — is priced on consultation; there is no honest per-metre number for one-off craft.

What the price includes

A real tadelakt quote from us covers the full system, not just the visible coat: substrate preparation, the waterproofing build-up appropriate to the zone, the lime plaster applied in its coats, the stone-burnishing, and the traditional olive-soap sealing that makes the surface water-repellent. If your goal is simply a seamless, grout-free bathroom and the budget is leading the decision, compare tadelakt honestly against a microcement wet-zone system, which starts from AED 350 per square metre — a similar starting figure, but a flatter, more predictable one, because microcement labour scales with area rather than artistry. To make the framing concrete: a straightforward tadelakt feature wall of 10 m² starts from around AED 3,500. A typical bathroom’s walls, around 25 m², start from around AED 8,750.
