Tiles don’t usually fail — the grout between them does. Every metre of joint is a seam where water works in, where soap scum settles, and where black mould eventually shows. A microcement bathroom removes the seams entirely: walls, floor and shower become one continuous, sealed mineral surface.

The things people worry about
Is it really waterproof for a shower?
Yes — a microcement shower is only as good as the build-up under it, so we install a full tanking membrane, detail the slopes and drainage, and seal with an immersion-grade finish rated for constant wetting. Done properly, it outperforms grouted tile, which relies on dozens of metres of vulnerable joint.
Won't it crack around the shower?
Not when the substrate is prepared and reinforced correctly. We stabilise the base, mesh the movement-prone junctions, and build the coats to the right thickness. Cracking is a workmanship failure, not a property of microcement.
How is it cheaper than re-tiling?
Often it's comparable or less on a renovation, because it goes over the existing surface — no demolition, no rubble, no week of dust through the home. And you're paying for a seamless, joint-free finish rather than tiles plus grout plus labour to lay every piece.
Is it slippery when wet?
We can specify a fine-textured, anti-slip finish for shower floors and wet areas, so grip is designed in without losing the smooth, seamless look on the walls.

Is microcement waterproof in a shower?
Yes, when installed with a full tanking system and an immersion-grade sealer. The microcement itself is a stable mineral coating; the waterproofing is done by the membrane beneath it and the sealer above it, with slopes and drainage detailed correctly.
Can microcement go over existing bathroom tiles?
Yes. It bonds over sound existing tiles at only a few millimetres thick, so you avoid demolition and the joints vanish under one seamless surface — provided the substrate is sound and correctly prepared and tanked.
Does a microcement bathroom get mouldy?
Far less than tile. With no grout joints there's nowhere for black mould and soap scum to lodge, and the sealed surface wipes clean — one of the main reasons people move away from tiled showers.
How long does a microcement bathroom take?
Usually about five to seven days including cure and sealing time. Each layer must cure before the next, and the waterproofing and sealer need their own curing windows, so the room should stay out of use for the full period.
