Cork Resin

What it is

Cork resin is the softest voice in our seamless family. Granules of natural cork — the bark of the cork oak, harvested without felling the tree — are bound in a clear resin and trowelled or sprayed into one continuous surface. Everything cork does in a wine bottle it does on a floor: it insulates, it absorbs sound, and it gives slightly under pressure and recovers. Where it comes from

Cork flooring is old — the bark has been pressed into tiles since the nineteenth century, and whole libraries and churches were floored in it for its silence. What changed recently is the binder. Modern clear resins let loose cork granules be laid seamless like any resin floor, and spray-cork systems — developed for coating buildings in cork’s insulating skin — brought the material to walls and complex shapes. In the UAE the case for it is a quiet inversion of the usual one.
