What is EPDM rubber surfacing?

EPDM rubber surfacing is a cushioning rubber-crumb base topped with a coloured EPDM wear layer, poured and trowelled in place into one seamless, soft floor. Rubber safety surfacing is a soft, poured floor — laid wet on site and smoothed by hand into one seamless, cushioned expanse. Underfoot it gives just a little, warm and quiet where stone would be cold and hard. It’s the surface that catches a stumble, softens a fall and invites bare feet to linger. When people search for a rubber surface, this seamless poured kind is the one we lay across the UAE — we do not supply or lay rubber tiles, mats or rolls, so if a tiled gym floor is what you need, a tile supplier is the honest route.

It comes to life in colour: gentle earth tones, soft greens, blends that hint at a meadow or a shoreline. Where it comes from

Poured rubber grew out of a simple, human wish: to make the places where children play, and where we push our bodies, a little kinder. It began in playgrounds and running tracks, then found its way into homes as families sought that same gentle, forgiving feel — a surface that looks considered yet always puts safety and ease quietly first. How a poured rubber surface is built

A poured rubber floor, often called wet-pour, is built on site in two layers. First comes a coarse cushioning base of black recycled rubber granules — this is the layer that absorbs a fall, and its depth is set from the height of the tallest equipment that stands on it. On top goes a coloured wear layer of finer granules, the EPDM most people search for, bound in polyurethane and trowelled seamless. The base does the protecting; the wear layer takes the feet, the sun and the colour. Because both are poured in place, the floor wraps around posts, curves and mounds without a joint. What is EN 1177?

EN 1177 is the European standard for impact-absorbing playground surfacing: it sets out how a surface is tested to find its critical fall height — the height of fall that a given build-up protects against. The rating belongs to a specific build-up at a specific depth, not to “rubber” in general, which is why the first question about any play area is what stands on it and how high the tallest piece is. Caring for a poured rubber floor

Poured rubber asks for very little, but the little matters in UAE conditions:

• Sweep or blow off sand and leaves regularly — grit left on the surface wears the top granules faster.
• Rinse it down with clean water now and then; the floor drains rather than holding water.
• Keep embers, cigarettes and sharp heels off it. Heat and point loads mark a soft surface.
• Check the wear points — under swing seats and at slide exits, where the wear layer works hardest.
• Patch early. Because the floor is poured, a worn spot can be patched, though a patch in a faded colour field will read newer than its surroundings.
