Microcement vs Epoxy Flooring: Which Seamless Floor Wins in the UAE?

Both microcement and designer epoxy give you a seamless floor with no grout lines — but they are not interchangeable. The short verdict: choose microcement for a matte, stone-like surface that also runs up walls and into bathrooms; choose designer epoxy for a high-gloss metallic or marbled floor in a showroom, boutique or luxury garage. On price, designer epoxy starts lower — from AED 160 per square metre against microcement floors from AED 250 — but the two are answering different design questions, and cost is rarely the deciding factor. Microcement vs epoxy flooring: which should you choose?

Choose microcement if you want a soft, matte, mineral surface — the look of polished cement or fine stone — and if you want the same finish to continue onto walls, into a shower or around a pool. Choose designer epoxy if you want depth and shine: swirled metallic pigment, a marble-like pour, a mirror-gloss topcoat that reads as a statement floor under showroom lighting. Both are seamless and both remove grout lines from the equation; from there they diverge on look, on where they belong, and on price.

How much do microcement and epoxy floors cost in the UAE?

Microcement floors start from AED 250 per square metre and designer metallic epoxy from AED 160 per square metre, both supply and install. In practice a typical 40 m² living-room floor in microcement starts from around AED 10,000, while a 60 m² showroom floor in designer epoxy also starts from around AED 10,000 — epoxy’s lower per-metre rate spread over a larger commercial space. Microcement carries the higher starting rate because it is built up by hand in thin mineral layers over several days; designer epoxy is a poured resin system. Which looks better — microcement or metallic epoxy?

Neither is “better” — they sit at opposite ends of the same room. Microcement is matte and mineral: it reads as polished concrete or soft stone, calm and architectural, the kind of floor that recedes and lets the furniture speak. Metallic epoxy is the opposite instinct — depth, movement and shine, pigment swirled like liquid marble under a mirror topcoat, a floor built to be noticed. For a minimalist villa or a spa bathroom, microcement is almost always the right call. For a car showroom, a jewellery boutique or a statement garage, designer epoxy earns its gloss.

Which is better for bathrooms and pools?

Microcement, without contest. With the correct tanking system beneath it and an immersion-grade sealer above, microcement is genuinely waterproof, which is why RBS uses it for showers, bathrooms and pools from AED 350 per square metre — and why the same finish can run seamlessly from the bathroom floor up the walls. Designer epoxy belongs in dry indoor areas; it is not the surface we would specify for a wet room or a pool shell. If a seamless, grout-free bathroom is the goal, microcement is the answer.

Which handles UAE heat and outdoor sun?

For anything under direct sun, be wary of both. Designer epoxy will amber and lose its gloss over time in UV, so it is an indoor floor — full stop. Microcement holds up better to heat but is not our first recommendation for driveways or open pool decks either. For exterior floors that live in the 45°C summer sun, the honest answer is a third surface: resin-bound stone carpet, laid with a UV-stable binder from around AED 300 per square metre. Choosing microcement or epoxy for an exterior is choosing the wrong tool; we would steer you to resin-bound instead.

Which is more durable and easier to repair?

Designer epoxy is exceptionally hard-wearing indoors — chemical-resistant, stain-resistant and seamless — but it has one honest weakness: as a high-gloss floor it can scratch under grit, and a mirror finish shows every mark. In a country where sand travels indoors on every sole, an entrance mat earns its keep. Microcement is matte, so day-to-day wear reads far more forgivingly, and it can be re-sealed to refresh the surface. Both avoid the real failure point of tiles and slabs — there are no grout lines for coastal humidity to darken. If your floor will take spills and chemicals in a workshop or garage, epoxy is tougher; if it is a home floor that should still look calm after a few years of family traffic, microcement hides its life better.
