The honest shortlist for UAE conditions

A UAE driveway has to survive three things: relentless summer sun, a surface that gets scorching underfoot, and rare-but-violent rain that has nowhere to go on a flat sealed surface. That rules the field down faster than looks do.

Why resin bound is the default answer

For a flat villa forecourt, resin bound does the most things well at once. It’s a “stone carpet” — natural aggregate mixed into a UV-stable resin and trowelled smooth — so it reads as one seamless, refined surface with no joints, no weeds and no shifting units. It’s permeable, which matters more here than people expect: when the rare UAE downpour arrives, water drains straight through it rather than sheeting across a sealed drive and pooling at the gate. When to choose resin bonded instead

If your driveway slopes, or you want the grippiest possible surface, resin bonded is the better call. Same natural stone, but scattered onto a resin film so the stone tips stand proud — rougher, very grippy even when wet, ideal for a ramp down to a basement garage or a sloped approach. When the best answer isn’t us

• Tightest budget, look doesn’t matter. Plain concrete or asphalt covers ground for less than any decorative surface. If the drive is purely functional and you’re not chasing a finish, that’s the sensible spend — not resin.
• Heavy or commercial vehicles, frequent digging for services. A concrete slab or interlock pavers you can lift and relay unit-by-unit can make more sense than any troweled surface.
