How Much Does a Feature Wall Cost in the UAE?

A hand-finished feature wall in the UAE starts from AED 160 per square metre for marmorino or travertino lime plaster, from AED 180/m² for stucco veneziano (Venetian plaster), and from AED 220/m² for microcement — supply and install, by RBS Group. Specialty effects — metallic plasters, velvet and suede finishes, carved sgraffito — are priced on consultation, because each one is designed for the wall it goes on. A typical 12 m² living-room feature wall therefore starts from around AED 1,920 in marmorino; that is the honest anchor number, and everything below explains what moves it.

The price ladder, bottom to top

From AED 160/m² — marmorino and travertino. The entry point to real hand-trowelled lime. Marmorino reads as soft, cloudy stone; travertino imitates cut travertine, with its layered bedding and open pores. Both are matte-to-satin, forgiving of imperfect rooms, and the best value in the hand-finished range.

From AED 180/m² — stucco veneziano. The polished one: burnished pass after pass until the wall turns into a marble mirror. The extra cost is labour — the burnishing is slow, and it demands a flatter, better-prepared substrate than the matte finishes tolerate.

From AED 220/m² — microcement. The modern seamless surface, and the right feature wall when it may one day continue onto a floor, a counter or into a bathroom — the same material runs across all of them. See microcement in Dubai for the full system.

On consultation — the specialty effects. Metallic plasters that shimmer as you move past, velvet and suede soft-light finishes, and sgraffito — pattern carved by hand through layers of coloured lime. These are priced per design, not per catalogue, because a carved 10 m² wall and a carved 40 m² wall are not the same job per metre.

What moves a wall price

Wall work has its own cost drivers, and they are not the same as floors:

• Preparation. The single biggest variable. Polished finishes like stucco veneziano show every undulation, so the substrate must be brought truly flat first; matte finishes forgive more. A wall that needs skimming and levelling before the finish starts costs more than one that doesn’t.
• Height and access. A double-height stairwell or a lobby wall needs scaffolding or towers, and every trowel pass takes longer at height. Standard ceiling-height rooms are the baseline.
• Curves and details. Curved walls, niches, arches, bulkheads and recessed lighting details are all slower than a flat plane — beautiful, and priced as the extra hand-work they are.
• Colour depth and layers. Deep, saturated tones and multi-layer builds take more coats than a pale single-tone wall. The difference is real labour, not a surcharge.
• Area. Small feature walls carry a practical minimum — the crew, setup and materials arrive whether the wall is 8 m² or 80 — so bigger areas always price better per metre.

An honest word about small walls

The per-metre rates above are starting rates, and on a very small wall the arithmetic can mislead: 6 m² at AED 160 does not mean the job costs AED 960, because no professional crew can mobilise for that. If your budget is genuinely tight and the wall is small, say so — sometimes the honest answer is a quality texture paint rather than a hand-trowelled lime, and we would rather tell you that than quote you into disappointment.

Which finish for which room

Formal, light-filled spaces — entrance halls, dining rooms — are where stucco veneziano’s gloss earns its premium. Rooms that work hard, or walls that might extend into wet zones, point to microcement.
